Meet Our Teachers

Message from the Principal

St Francis Xavier's School began in Lake Cargelligo as St Joseph's School in 1929 by three Sisters of St Joseph. The town and community retain great respect for those three brave Sisters who spent many committed years of teaching in days of extreme hardship and poverty. The Parish and Catholic Community owe a great deal to the many Sisters of St Joseph who dedicated their lives to the children in their care.

St Francis Xavier School is a school that prides itself on being like a family, we all work closely together to achieve the best results for each student so they can be the best young people they can possibly be. Being a small school allows St Francis Xavier School to have a strong sense of community.

St Francis Xavier’s enthusiastic and dedicated staff offer innovative, engaging and quality learning programs which cater for the diverse needs and interests of our students. Students at St Francis Xavier School have opportunities to develop critical thinking, creativity, collaborative and communication skills. Technology is an integrated component of all classes and includes a 1:1 iPad program in all classes and a 1:1 laptop/desktop computer for students in the Stage 2 and Stage 3 class. At St Francis Xavier School students are challenged and supported in all areas of the curriculum so that they can develop the knowledge, skills and understandings required to become active, lifelong learners who can contribute, live and succeed in society.

The school is proud of its buildings and facilities. Our extensive grounds, which includes a large range of undercover play equipment, give the students plenty of space to take part in both structured and instructed games.

The Sisters of St Joseph and their example proudly continues at St Francis Xavier School in an environment based on Gospel values and a strong commitment to the teachings of Christ. The spirit of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop is embedded in our daily school life - everyone is encouraged to live Mary's words... "never see a need without doing something about it". Together we strive for students who are happy, self-confident and hope for a better world which is based on Gospel values of love, respect and justice and the teachings and example of Jesus.

The school has strong links to Our Lady of Lourdes Parish with the Church located nearby. It is the focal point for many of our celebrations and liturgies, including our regular School Masses.
